Organization of Learning Resources

Lesson 9

-I liked looking at the Dewey Browse website created by Gail Shea Grainger.  It looks like there are some fun and informative websites linked to hers.  I think some of those links would be fun for students to explore and play around with.  I am guessing that was her goal since she wrote on there that it is for Grades K-12.

-I find the idea of teaching students about the DDC intimidating.  I could see myself having to teach the basics of it to library moniters.  This is why it is great that there are resources out there like Grainger’s Dewey Browse and the website: “Do We” Really Know Dewey?.

-“Theoretically, a classification system should work in such a way that books on any one subject would be found in only one place…Its important to choose the right subject heading for any new items for a library for best access” (UBC Vista).  I agree with this statement because it shows the importance of carefully choosing subject headings so that someone can find the resources they need quickly and efficiently.
